came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod
wants to kill you.”
32He replied, “Go tell that
fox, ‘I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow,
and on the third day I will reach my goal.’
33In any case, I must press
on today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside
34“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you
who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to
gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and
you were not willing.
35Look, your house is left to
you desolate. I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is
he who comes in the name of the Lord.’”

teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing him.
11Then Herod and his soldiers
ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back
to Pilate.
12That day Herod and Pilate
became friends—before this they had been enemies.
13Pilate called together the
chief priests, the rulers and the people,
14and said to them, “You
brought me this man as one who was inciting the people to rebellion. I have
examined him in your presence and have found no basis for your charges against
him.
15Neither has Herod, for he
sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing to deserve death.
16Therefore, I will punish
him and then release him.”
