Matthew 7:21-23

21“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

22Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’

23Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

1)       According to what Jesus said in verse 21 what is and what is not the definitive indicator that one would enter the kingdom of heaven?

o   Not everyone who says to Jesus, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven.

o   Only the one who does God’s will will enter the kingdom of heaven.

 

2)       In accordance with what Jesus said in verses 21 to 23, will these people who say that they prophesy in Jesus’ name and in Jesus’ name drive out demons and perform many miracles enter the kingdom of heaven?

o   No.

 

3)       Are these people doing God’s will?

o   No.

 

4)       But do these people have the appearance of doing God’s will?

o   Yes.

 

5)       According to what Jesus said in verse 23 what will he plainly tell these people who have the appearance of doing God’s will but actually do not?

o   I never knew you.

o   Away from me, you evildoers!
